St. Ignatius was a soldier in the Spanish Army.  While recovering from being wounded in battle, he read the Life of Christ. He was a lapsed Catholic at the time. After reading the book of Christ’s life, he immediately gave his life to Christ & committed himself to work for Christ.

Until then spirituality tended to cater for those living a monastic life. His spirituality, however, tended to center on the needs of an ordinary lay person involved in worldly pursuits.   He founded his order now known as the Jesuits, whom he said “they were to be men for others”.  Today, this spirituality is ideal for one engaged in the busy world.   .

St. Ignatius, founder of the Jesuit order, left his community the priceless record of his own Spiritual Conversion - known as "The Spiritual Exercises."

The spiritual process, based on Scripture, enabled him to change from once being a carefree & reckless soldier to becoming the founder of the Jesuit order, and finally a canonized saint.  Although he died 500 years ago, his spirituality is widely known and practiced today and is ideal for lay people living their faith in this secular world.

This year the Spiritual Enrichment Center will present The Spiritual Exercises in a single form: A Personally Guided Retreat for 30 weeks. The retreat is "home based".

Application Forms required for the retreat.
RETREAT COMMENCES IN SEPTEMBER 2017.
Where: Spiritual Enrichment Center, 320 Tenth St.

The spirituality of St Ignatius and of his society (Jesuits) founded 450 years ago, changed the world of his day. The main tenets of the Ignatian Sprituality may be summed up as follows:

Christocentric – Ignatius adopted as his way, the way of life as modeled by Christ.

Experience of Christ – not the Christ of history but rather the Christ of mystery. The Christ  who dwells within each one of us.

Discernment –    The Exercise enable us to discern the action of God in our personal life and in the choices we make.
