Today many are faced with life-changing decisions unknown to past generations. Responding to this, the Ignatian Exercises, with its inbuilt dynamic of discernment, is central to the work of the Center. The Spiritual Exercises offer an opportunity for the person wishing to grow in a deeper relationship with Christ. The Center offers the Spiritual Exercises in the form of 19th Annotation, where retreatants meditate in their homes daily and visit with a spiritual director weekly from September through May.
St. Ignatius was a soldier in the Spanish Army. While recovering from being wounded in battle, though he was not a practicing his faith, he read the Life of Christ. After reading the book of Christ’s life, he immediately gave his life to Christ & committed himself to work for Christ.
Until then, spirituality tended to cater for those living a monastic life. His spirituality, however, tended to center on the needs of an ordinary lay person involved in worldly pursuits. He founded his order now known as the Jesuits, whom he said “they were to be men for others”. Today, this spirituality is ideal for one engaged in the busy world.
St. Ignatius left his community the priceless record of his own Spiritual Conversion - known as "The Spiritual Exercises." The spiritual process, based on Scripture, enabled him to change from once being a carefree & reckless soldier to becoming the founder of the Jesuit order, and finally a canonized saint. Although he died 500 years ago, his spirituality is widely known and practiced today and is ideal for lay people living their faith in this secular world.

Why do the exercises?
- To have a greater awareness of God's love for us.
- To live mindful of God constantly creating me and drawing me closer to himself.
- To grow into ongoing conversion: deliberately rejecting absurd desiring and pointless yearning, consciously choosing to stand open to the Spirit of God.
- Tremendous freedom
- To be a friend of Jesus or to deepen the friendship already there.
- To be more in touch with our inner wisdom - to be discerning people.
- To know the difference between our true self and our false self, and the grace to live our life from our true self.
- All through the exercises more and more we integrate our faith with our daily life.
